The veteran Russian-born, Polish Grandmaster is ‘playing musical chairs’ in Corus, having played in the B group and winning it, then the A group, then later the C group he won last year (with a powerful 10.5/13), and now again in group B!
Known for his significant rating swings, Michal , who holds a masters degree in applied mathematics, is now on an upswing again. While not yet at his year-2000 peak of 2700+, he is an active and creative player, who could certainly repeat that.
Michal is also a chess author, having written books on several openings, such as the Ruy Lopez and the Sveshnikov Sicilian. Winner of many strong tournaments, he is also a several time participant in the world championships knockout competitions.
His most notable successes in 2007 were his 7.5/11 in the Bundesliga, and a shared first in the GM-studded Politiken cup in Sweden, as well as some other high finishes in several open events. |
