Nadezhda is Tatiana’s (from GM B) older sister and study partner, and is also WGM and IM. She is a multiple times European Junior champion, and a former world under 14 champion. At age 7 while Nadja and her sister returned from a dance class, they passed by a chess club and with their mom’s encouragement enrolled and fell in love with the royal game. She names Fischer, Kasparov and Judit Polgar as her favorite players and points at their fighting spirit and powerful play as to why. Unlike her younger sister who has a preference towards sharp play, Nadezhda said she prefers quieter games.
Also like her sister, she is a law student in Pomor University in her hometown of Archangelsk, and similarly focuses on her schoolwork with chess work in her free time. Nadja is the current Europeaan Women’s vice champion, and is also a member of her national Olympic team (she scored a fantastic 7.5/10 in Turin). Her latest noticeable successes earlier in the year were 9.5/11 in the Russian Women’s team competition, and the high score for her team (6.5/10 in their Summit match in china). Nadja will celebrate her 21st birthday in Corus! |
