| Biography: | It is always an achievement when one gets his rating up 66 points. The feat is doubly impressive, when it comes on the heels of another 60-point gain in the preceding year and a half, and is magnified 3-fold when the starting rating for the 66-point gain is 2660! That is exactly what happened this 21 year old multiple time champion of the Czech Republic. Most striking in 2006 are his results in team events. The “Navara Express” played in several leagues and the Olympiad, with amazing scores, the highlight of which were: 8.5/13 as first board in Turin (including a fine victory over Svidler), 6/6 in the 4NCL British league (versus 5 GM’s and an IM), and 7/9 in the Greek league – truly unstoppable!
David has always been a successful junior player and medalled several times in world competitions. He got his IM title at age 14, and his GM title less than 3 years later. His chess style fits well with his choice of his university major: he studies Logic at the Charles university in Prague.
Last year the very objective and self-critical David played in the Corus B group, and finished with a satisfactory 7.5/13 and 5th place, but with results that speak for themselves he is elevated to make a first appearance in a mega event. |
