During the closing-ceremony of the 70th Corus Chess Tournament the following statement was made by the organizing committee.

On Sunday January 20th, 2008 we were confronted with an unpleasant situation when a participant refused to shake hands with his opponent. Such actions are a rude offense to the opponent, to the organizing committee as well as to the sponsor. Settling scores between players and/or managers should not take place during a private tournament like the Corus Chess Tournament.
